James Gikas joined Recon Research
Corporation as a senior economist in 1991. His fields of expertise are price
theory, industrial organization, antitrust economics and econometrics. While at
Recon, he has been responsible for advising major financial institutions about
national and regional economic trends, including real estate markets and the
current and future structure of various industries. In addition, Dr. Gikas has
managed several litigation support projects covering theoretical applications of
economics to the law and their supporting empirical studies, including in depth
market structure and concentration analysis, estimated lost profit calculations,
and rate of return studies.
Before joining Recon, Dr. Gikas
taught a variety of economics courses at California State University,
Northridge. While there, he was also on several faculty committees and served a
term as a member and treasurer of the board of directors for the federally
chartered credit union that serves the campus. Prior to that, Dr. Gikas
attempted to market an instructional video series on introductory economics for
kids, starring Billy Barty as Mr. Opportunity Cost. Unfortunately, his idea was
not well received.
Dr. Gikas earned a B.A. in
economics at the University of Maryland and received his Ph.D. in economics from
UCLA. He currently lives with his wife and daughter in Culver City where he
enjoys shooting water rats and feeding them to his geese.
